How the IGCSE grade calculator works
IGCSE grades are not percentage bands. Each exam series, Cambridge and Edexcel publish the minimum total raw mark needed for every grade in every subject — the grade boundaries. Your marks from all papers are combined into one total, and the highest boundary that total reaches is the grade you are awarded. This tool does exactly that comparison, using the board's own figures for the session you pick, so the answer matches the way the boards actually grade.
Because boundaries are set after each series is marked, they move a few marks every session — a harder paper gets lower thresholds. That is why choosing the right session matters, and why an estimate against a past series is a guide rather than a guarantee.
A worked example
Take Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580), June 2026, extended · papers 21, 41, out of 200 marks. A total of 114 reaches grade B — that is 57% of the paper. To reach grade A you would have needed 138, so the two grades are 24 marks apart. Seeing that gap in marks rather than percentages is usually what changes how people revise: it is often one question, not one grade's worth of extra work.

Getting a useful estimate
- Match the syllabus code. Cambridge runs several subjects in both a 9–1 and an A*–G version under different codes, and they grade differently.
- Match the tier. Core is capped at grade C (or 5); an Extended total measured against Core thresholds will flatter you badly.
- Match the paper variant. Variants sat in different time zones have their own thresholds, sometimes several marks apart.
- Use a recent session. Boundaries drift; a table from four years ago tells you less about this year than last August's does.
- Check the gap, not just the grade. The marks between you and the next grade are the most actionable number on the page.

- How do I work out my IGCSE percentage?
- Divide your total raw mark by the maximum mark for the option you sat, then multiply by 100. Note that the percentage is only a way of describing your mark — grades are awarded on raw marks against boundaries, not on percentage bands.
- How accurate is the IGCSE grade calculator?
- It is exact for the session you choose, because it uses that session’s published thresholds. It is an estimate for a future exam: boundaries for a series that has not been graded yet do not exist, so pick the most recent comparable session and treat the result as a guide.
- Can I use it for predicted or mock grades?
